Indian Lake State Park will be hosting a "GO-Get Outdoors" 75th anniversary celebration of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on Sunday, Aug. 17.
Both Indian Lake and Palms Book State Parks owe much of their development to the CCC. Original buildings constructed from local limestone and timbers are still standing at Indian Lake State Park. The beach shelter and picnic shelter have evolved over time from a camp store to a museum to facilities for family gatherings, including a few weddings and family reunions.
On Aug. 17, a special concert by entertainer and historian Bill Jamerson will be held at "The Beach Shelter" beginning at 2 p.m.
"Bill is an author, musician, and singer who will bring the past to life through his presentation," said Park Supervisor Lee Vaughn. "Bill believes that history is not just about the past, but something that helps us understand who we are and how we got to where we are today."
Indian Lake State Park is located at 8970W County Road 442 near Manistique. For more information about this event, Indian Lake or Palms Book State Parks, call 906-341-2355.
