The Department of Natural Resources announced today that Thumb Lake boating access site, located seven miles east of Boyne Falls in Charlevoix County, will be closed from Monday, Aug. 18, through Wednesday, Sept. 3, for improvements. The improvements will include access site redevelopment to make the flow of traffic safer.
Mullett Lake boating access site, located near Mullett Lake Village in Cheboygan County, will be closed Sept. 2-15 for construction. This site, and the Thumb Lake site, will become paved sites and include accessibility improvements to comply with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards.
Alternate access to Mullett Lake during construction will be available at the Jewell Road and Aloha State Park access sites. No alternate access to Thumb Lake will be available during construction.
These projects are being funded by grants from the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Program and the Michigan State Waterways Fund.
For information about the status of these projects or alternate access, contact Tom Paquin, manager of the Cheboygan Field Office, at 231-627-9011.
