Agency: Natural Resources

September 2, 2008

The Department of Natural Resources is inviting visitors to the second annual Traverse City State Park "One Pot Potluck Cook-Off" on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Campers and day use visitors can participate in this tasty annual "GO-Get Outdoors" event by submitting a pot of stew, chili or soup cooked at the park over a campfire, stove or in a crock-pot. Judging will take place at 4 p.m. and sampling festivities will take place soon after. Prizes will be given away in various categories. Bread, beverages and desserts will be provided, but be sure to bring a bowl and spoon.

Traverse City State Park is located at 1132 U.S. 31 North, just outside Traverse City. At the park you will find 343 modern campsites with electricity and ADA accessible restrooms. Sites are still available for a great "GO-Get Outdoors" fall weekend. Reservations can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-447-2757.

For information about this event, the park, accessibility at the park, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor, Tim Schreiner, at 231-922-5270 (or TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired) at least seven days prior to the event, or visit the website at www.michigan.gov/traversecity.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
