Contact:  Lynn Marla 517-241-2225
Agency: Natural Resources

September 10, 2008

The Department of Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) Program is offering women, 18 and older, an exciting day of sporting clays and pheasant hunting Sept. 27 at Rapid River in the Upper Peninsula.

"This one-day Beyond BOW workshop on National Hunting and Fishing Day gives women the chance to try their hand at clay target shooting, experience hunting with a trained bird dog and have the opportunity to hunt ring-necked pheasants in a mentored setting," said Lynn Marla, state BOW Program coordinator.

The workshop will be held at Black Duck Sporting Clays, located at 9288 25.75 Lane in Rapid River. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and the $65 fee includes clay targets, lunch, hunting dogs and guides, the opportunity for each person to take three pheasants and a bird cleaning demonstration. Prior shooting experience is required to take part in the hunting. Participants should bring their own gun and high brass #5 ammunition for the hunt and low brass/target load ammunition for the sporting clays. A few guns will be available for those who do not have one. Participants must have a valid Michigan small game hunting license and wear some type of hunter orange clothing.

Enrollment is limited. Registration forms are available on the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/bow. Payment of the fee must accompany the registration. For more information, contact Lynn Marla at (517) 241-2225 or marlal@michigan.gov.
