Agency: Natural Resources

September 10, 2008

A fall festival to celebrate the "GO-Get Outdoors" lifestyle will be held at Fayette Historic State Park on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5. This third year event is hosted by the Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the Department of History, Arts and Libraries' Michigan Historical Center and the Friends of Fayette State Park.

"Fayette's Fall Fest is defined by good old fashioned fun, so I encourage area residents and visitors to come join us. The park staff will be a marauding crew of pirates, so make sure you hide all your gold doubloons before entering the park," said Randy Brown, DNR park supervisor.

Activities include a campsite decorating contest for both nighttime and daytime presentations. Prizes will be awarded and campers are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costumes.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, there will be hayrides from the campground into the historic townsite and from the Visitor Center parking lot to the historic townsite. Rides will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. From 1 to 4:30 p.m., many activities are planned including pumpkin painting, decorating trick or treat bags, creating bracelets, apple press/cider making demonstrations, children's games, a scavenger hunt and pumpkin search. A hotdog concession will be available. There will be spooky surprises at the historic townsite, along with hayrides and trick or treating. Prizes will be awarded.

Hayrides from townsite to campground for more trick or treating will also take place. Campers are encouraged to bring candy to pass out. There will be an adult and child costume contest, and prizes will be handed out.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m., there will be donuts, hot cider, coffee and hot chocolate will be served at the campground, and park staff will announce the winners of the campsite decorating contest.

For a detailed schedule of activities for this event, or information on accessibility at the park, contact the park supervisor at 906-644-2603 (or TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired) View more information about accessibility at the park at www.michigan.gov/fayette.
