'GO-Get Outdoors' at the 5th Annual P.H. Hoeft State Park Harvest Festival Oct. 4

Contact:  Blake Gingrich 989-734-2543
Agency: Natural Resources

September 22, 2008

P. H. Hoeft State Park is inviting the public to participate in its fifth annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m.

Campers will be preparing their campsites for the "Best Decorated Campsite" competition. There will also be a "Best Costume" contest, and children's games will be offered throughout the day. Children can participate in pumpkin carving and trying to hit a piņata.

"Best Costume" judging will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. The park roads will be closed at that time for safety as the trick-or-treating begins. The haunted trail will be open from 8:30 until 10 p.m.

All are encouraged to bring treats to pass out, and join in the fun by wearing their best costume or decorating their campsite. Coffee, cider and doughnuts will be provided.

Hoeft State Park is located at 5001 US-23, five miles northwest of Rogers City in Presque Isle County. The park offers 144 campsites in a modern campground, and campsites are still available for this event. Camping reservations can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-447-2757.

For information about this event, the park, or accessibility at the park, contact Blake Gingrich, park supervisor, at 989-734-2543 (or TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the website at www.michigan.gov/hoeft.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
