September 22, 2008

North Higgins Lake State Park will host its second "GO-Get Outdoors" Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27. Campers need to plan for a full day, as activities begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day until 10 p.m.

Planned activities include hay rides, crafts with the staff, trick-or-treating, campsite decorating and a costume contest for kids, adults and pets. There also will be pumpkin bowling, tossing ears of corn, pumpkin decorating, a coloring contest, cider and donuts and a scavenger hunt.

Participants are encouraged to bring treats to pass out for trick-or-treating, and join in the fun by decorating their campsite or putting on their best costume. Prizes donated by local vendors will be awarded to participants by the park staff.

North Higgins Lake State Park is located at 11747 North Higgins Lake Dr. near Roscommon, five miles west of I-75 North (Exit 244), or one mile east of US-27 (Military Road Exit). The park has two modern campgrounds with a total of 174 campsites and accessible restroom facilities. It also has two accessible mini-cabins that will accommodate up to four people each. Campsites and one of the mini-cabins are currently available for this weekend. Camping reservations can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-447-2757.

For more information about this event, the park, or accessibility at the park, contact the park supervisor at 989-821-6125 (or TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the web site at www.michigan.gov/northhigginslake.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
