The Department of Natural Resources today announced the Manistique Lake Boating Access Site, commonly referred to as Manistique Lake - Northside Boat Access Site on the north shore of Big Manistique Lake in the Upper Peninsula, will be closed temporarily for dredging and boat ramp repair beginning Monday, Oct. 6.
The project consists of mechanically dredging a turning basin and channel to enhance and improve boater safety and maneuverability out to deep water. The concrete boat launch ramp also will be extended as part of this project.
This project will be completed by Parks and Recreation Division personnel from the DNR Newberry Field Office. This construction is being funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund. These restricted funds are derived from boat registrations and the marine fuel tax in Michigan.
Dredging and repairs are scheduled to be completed by Oct. 27.
"We apologize for the temporary inconvenience to the public," said James Hooker, manager of the Newberry Field Office. "However, boaters and anglers will experience improved launching opportunities upon completion."
Until repairs are complete, boaters are encouraged to use Cooks Bay, County Line or Curtis boat access sites, also located on Big Manistique Lake.
