Proud Lake State Recreation Area will host "Panic at Proud Lake" on the second, third and fourth weekends in October, beginning Oct. 10, and its annual campground Fall Harvest Festivals Oct. 11 and 18.
"Panic at Proud Lake," sponsored by the Friends of Proud Lake Recreation Area, will take visitors on a spooky 15 minute canoe ride, followed by a one-mile haunted hike along a twisted, terrifying trail through the woods and end with a hayride. Lifejackets will be required and will be available at the park.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the event will run from 7 p.m. until midnight. No children under the age of 12 will be admitted for the Friday and Saturday evening events. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $12 per person.
Sunday's events will be more family-oriented and not so scary for children. Events will be open to families and children of all ages from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $7 per person. Children under the age of five are free.
"Panic at Proud Lake" is open to all campers and park visitors, so "GO-Get Outdoors" and enjoy a spooky fall season at Proud Lake. All proceeds from this event will be used by the Friends of Proud Lake for projects and improvements within the Proud Lake State Recreation Area. On Oct. 11 and 18, the park will host the campground Fall Harvest Festivals for registered campers only. Registered campers are also invited to participate in Panic at Proud Lake, but will have to pay the entry fee.
At the campground, Friday evening's events will consist of setting up camp, decorating campers and campsites, and possibly a scavenger hunt or movie at the campground host site.
Saturday's campground events will include games, crafts, trick-or-treating, a best costume and best-decorated site contest. Participants are encouraged to bring their own decorations and treats to pass out. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume and best-decorated site contests.
Proud Lake Recreation Area is located at 3500 Wixom Rd. in Commerce Township. The park has 130 sites in the modern campground with accessible restrooms, and sites are still available for these events. Camping reservations can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-447-2757.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
