September 29, 2008

Wilson State Park will be celebrating its second annual Fall Harvest Festival Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with a candy bar bingo at the picnic shelter building. Campers are encouraged to begin decorating their campers or campsites for the best-decorated site competition.

On Saturday, pumpkin carving and painting activities for children and adults will be held at the campground host site from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pumpkins will be donated by the park for this event. Children's activities will continue from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the campground host site.

Campground trick-or-treating will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Campers are encouraged to bring wrapped, commercially-made treats to pass out. A hayride through the park will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a marshmallow roast and sing-along around the campfire.

Judging for the best-decorated site competition will be held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. A prize will be awarded to the winner of the competition.

Early October generally provides excellent camping weather, and offers the best opportunity of the year to catch a big muskie on Budd Lake. So "GO-Get Outdoors" and enjoy the fall season at Wilson State Park's fall harvest festival. This event is for campers only.

Wilson State Park is located at 910 N. First St., three and one-half miles north of US-127 (northbound lane) or three and one-half miles south of US-127 (southbound lane) at the Harrison Exit in Clare County. The park offers 160 modern campsites with an accessible restroom, along with a mini-cabin and tee-pee, and sites are still available for the weekend. Camping reservations can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations.com, or call 800-447-2757.

For information about this event, the park, or accessibility at the park, contact the park at 989-539-3021 (TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the Web site at www.michigan.gov/wilson.
