Clear Lake State Park Hosting Sled Dog Races Jan. 24-25

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that Clear Lake State Park will be hosting the 20th annual "GO-Get Outdoors" Sled Dog Races on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24-25.

The races are sponsored by the Mid-Union Sled Haulers (M.U.S.H.) and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. All events are timed, and are scheduled as follows:

Saturday, Jan. 24

  • 9 a.m. - Late Registration
  • 11 a.m. - 3-Dog Race
  • 12 noon - 5-Dog Race
  • 1:30 p.m. - 7-Dog Race
  • 2 p.m. - Ski-joring (dogs pulling skiers)
  • 2:30 p.m. - Kiddie Runs
  • 3 p.m. - Weight Pull

Events on Sunday, Jan. 25, will occur in the same order, except one hour earlier, and there will not be a weight pull on Sunday.

Activities are open to both participants and spectators, and refreshments will be available.

The event will be held at the Clear Lake State Park day use area, located on County Road 622, off M-33, nine miles north of Atlanta. Racers will start in the picnic area.

For more information about this event, the park, accessibility, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor at 989-785-4388 (TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired) at least seven days prior to the weekend, or visit the web site at www.michigan.gov/clearlake.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
