Seven Lakes State Park Hosts Annual Izaak Walton Fishing Derby Feb. 14

Seven Lakes State Park, in partnership with the Izaak Walton League of America, is hosting the 44th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Participants should dress warm to come out and try their skills at ice fishing. Feb. 14-15 is Michigan's Winter Free Fishing Weekend, so fishing licenses are not required.

Prizes will be awarded for biggest fish, most fish, smallest fish, and even the ugliest fish. Refreshments also will be available at the concession/shelter building.

Seven Lakes State Park is located at 14390 Fish Lake Rd. in Holly. For more information about this event, the park, accessibility, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor at (248) 634-7271 (or TTY/TDD 711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the park's Web site at www.michigan.gov/sevenlakes. Seven Lakes State Park will reopen for the 2009 camping season beginning in May. Camping reservations are now being accepted through the end of July, including the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. Camping reservations can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-44-PARKS (800-447-2757). All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.
