Indian Lake State Park Hosts Lantern-Lit Snowshoe Hike Feb. 21

Contact:  Lee Vaughn 906-341-2355
Agency: Natural Resources and Environment

Feb. 13, 2009

Indian Lake State Park invites visitors for a nighttime, lantern-lit snowshoe hike through the woods Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the beach shelter.

This is a great opportunity to grab the kids, your spouse, or just get off the couch and "GO-Get Outdoors" for an evening of fun. After the hike, participants can return to a warming fire to share refreshments and stories. There will be a limited number of snowshoes available to borrow, so you'll want to arrive a bit early or bring your own, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Indian Lake State Park is located at 8970W County Road 442 near Manistique. For more information about this event, the park, accessibility, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor at (906) 341-2355 (or TTY/TDD 711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the Web site at www.michigan.gov/indianlake.

Camping reservations for all Michigan State Parks and Recreation Areas are now being accepted through the end of August, to include Memorial Day and 4th of July weekends. Camping reservations can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-44-PARKS (800-447-2757).

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
