Tahquamenon Falls State Park has announced its schedule for spring nature programs for 2009. The park is located at 41382 W. M-123 in Chippewa County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
On Saturday, April 25, a "Warblers and Waterfowl" program will be offered starting at 8:30 a.m. at the park's Rivermouth Campground. Department of Natural Resources Park Interpreter Theresa Grattan will lead a morning walk in search of spring migratory birds.
On Saturday, May 30, there will be a spring roadside clean-up along the park boundary on M-123. Friends of Tahquamenon will gather at 10 a.m. at the park headquarters and head out to clean up winter roadside garbage along M-123 between the Upper and Lower Falls. Supplies and lunch will be provided. All ages are welcome, but park staff asks that children under the age of 14 be supervised by an adult.
Geocaching 101 will be offered on Saturday, June 20, at the Lower Falls Picnic Area at 12 noon. Participants will learn the sport of geocaching with the help of local experts during a search for multiple and varying levels of caches in the park. An optional introductory lesson will be offered. Participants should bring their own global positioning system (GPS) units.
All programs are offered free, however; a Michigan State Park Motor Vehicle Permit is required to enter the park. Permits are available for sale at the park entrance for $6 for a resident daily and $24 for a resident annual. For out-of-state visitors, permits are available for $8 for a daily and $29 for an annual.
