Brimley State Park is hosting tree planting activities to aid in the reforestation process in the campground and day use areas of the park. This will be the fourth year tree planting has taken place in the park. Volunteers are welcome to assist in the planting of seedlings, as are school groups, community or conservation organizations. Planting activities are scheduled for May 4-9, and all necessary tools will be provided and volunteers are asked to dress for the weather.
Tree planting is required due to loss of many mature trees to disease. Seedlings have been donated in the past and the park is hoping to find a partner or partners that may wish to help with the tree donations this year. Individual families may wish to donate a tree or two and then make a day of getting the kids outdoors to help plant. All trees must be native to Michigan.
Brimley State Park is located in the eastern end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the shore of Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. Some of the more popular activities at the park include swimming, boating, fishing and freighter watching. The park offers 237 campsites with electricity, a mini-cabin and an enclosed picnic shelter.
Reservations for camping can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com or by calling 800-447-2757.
