Aloha State Park is hosting its first Luau on Saturday, May 30, from 4 to 9 p.m. The event features the Petoskey Steel Drum Band, an official pig roast, games for the entire family and, weather permitting, a sunset fit for paradise.
"With more than 50 waterfront campsites, a sunset view and the obvious name of our campground, it just seemed like the perfect event to kick off the summer," said Park Supervisor Jeremy Spell. "Aloha State Park is situated in the middle of the popular Inland Waterway -- a 38-mile water trail that connects Crooked Lake to Lake Huron -- making this a great weekend destination for boaters who want to camp and enjoy world-class entertainment."
This event is for all ages. The cost is $8 per person for the pig roast; kids 8 and under eat for free. Participants are reminded to bring a blanket or chair to enjoy the outdoor concert taking place in the campground on the waterfront. Grass skirts, luau attire and festive spirits are welcome.
Community support for this event has been strong, with local businesses such as the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau, Fernelius Auto Dealers, Great Lakes Meat, Kmart and Glenn's sponsoring the event.
