NRC Passes New Regulations for Ionia and Highland Field Trial Areas

Contact:  Harold Herta 517-335-5695
Agency: Natural Resources

June 11, 2009

The Natural Resources Commission adopted a policy at its recent meeting in Lansing limiting quail hunting on the designated field trial grounds during sanctioned field trial days at the Ionia and Highland Recreation Areas to only those hunters who are actively participating in the events. Other hunting opportunities are not restricted during field trial events.

The boundaries of the field trial grounds will be clearly marked and all sanctioned events will be posted at the area headquarters and on the DNR Web site in the fall. Quail hunters may continue to use the field trial areas when there are no sanctioned events. For more information about these new regulations, contact Harold Herta, DNR Parks and Recreation Divison resource management section chief, at 517-335-5695, or visit the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
