Contact:  Keith Cheli 231-627-4632
Agency: Natural Resources

June 15, 2009

The Department of Natural Resources and the Deer Lake Public Advisory Committee invite the public to view draft design plans for development of a boat access site on Deer Lake in Ishpeming Township in Marquette County.

The open house will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 25, at the Ishpeming Township Hall, located at US-41 West in Ishpeming. Individuals can visit the office during that time to view the plans and ask DNR staff and committee members questions and provide input.

"This project will include installation of a concrete plank boat ramp, 11 vehicle and trailer parking spaces, five vehicle only spaces, a canoe/ kayak launch area and will greatly improve public boating access to Deer Lake," said Ron Olson, chief of the DNR Parks and Recreation Division.

This project is supported through the State of Michigan Waterways program and other funding sources. The Michigan Waterways Fund is comprised of revenues received from boat registrations and marine fuel taxes. These revenues are dedicated by state law to be used for the benefit of boating. Initial allocation for phase one of this project is $75,000.

Persons with disabilities needing accommodations for the meeting should contact Keith Cheli at (231) 627-4632 a minimum of five business days before the meeting. Requests made less than five business days before events may not be accommodated.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
