Agency: Natural Resources

Aug. 18, 2009

The Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters that the deadline for applying for reserved hunts on managed waterfowl areas is Friday, Aug. 28.

Reserved hunts are held both mornings and afternoons of opening weekend at Harsen's Island, Fish Point, Nayanquing Point and Shiawassee River State Game Area. In all cases, the opening day afternoon hunt is reserved for parties that include at least one youth 10 to 16 years of age with the appropriate licenses. On the day of the hunt, successful applicants must have appropriate licenses and stamps and be accompanied by one to three other appropriate licensed hunters. No more than two adults, at least one of which must be over 18, may be in the party during the youth hunts.

Reserved goose hunts for the mornings of opening weekend are also available at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.

Applications, which cost $4, are available at all license vendors or online at www.michigan.gov/dnr. Hunters may apply for one hunt only. Results will be posted online Sept. 23, at www.michigan.gov/dnrdrawings.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
