Sept. 10, 2009

Muskallonge Lake State Park will host the second annual "Rock On with Lake Superior Agates" on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This rock show is dedicated to Lake Superior Agate collectors and enthusiasts. Participants can view collections, show off collections and learn about Lake Superior agates. Lapidaries will be on hand to cut and polish and help identify stones and vendors will be selling a variety of specialty items.

Several guest speakers are scheduled to give presentations on Lake Superior geology, agate formation, agate quality and crystals. If you have an interest in agates and Lake Superior rocks, this show will be a great opportunity to see some outstanding samples up close.

"Last year's show was a great success and this year's show looks to be bigger and better," said Jim Dzelak, Muskallonge Lake State Park supervisor. "Many of our park guests have a special interest in Lake Superior agates. The park offers access to Lake Superior that is sought after by agate enthusiasts. This rock show provides a great educational opportunity for visitors to learn not only about agates, but other rocks and minerals. This year the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will be here with a microscopic crystal display giving presentations throughout the day on crystals."
