The Pigeon River Country (PRC) Recreation Work Group, formed at the request of the Director of the Department of Natural Resources (Department), met twice during the month of February. A summary of their discussions, including several alternatives the group reviewed, are provided below.
The Department would like to thank the members of the PRC Recreation Work Group for their efforts in considering mountain bike and equestrian uses relative to the recommendations outlined in the recently approved PRC Concept of Management. The Department appreciates and values their input as we strive to achieve balance and compatibility between various recreational demands and protecting the "Big Wild" characteristics of the forest.
Department recommendations regarding mountain bike and equestrian uses within the boundaries of the PRC and the corresponding Land Use Order of the Director will to be presented at the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) Meeting in April as INFORMATION ONLY and in May for Director's ACTION. Details for the NRC meetings are available at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-39002_11862---,00.html
