Hoffmaster Wild Area

Recognition: Legally Dedicated Wild Area Hoffmaster Wild Area location map
Size: 246 acres
Location: On the shore of Lake Michigan, 6 miles south of Muskegon.
Management: P.J. Hoffmaster State Park
Activities: Hiking, photography, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, bird watching, outdoor education.
Importance:
Contains a high, wooded dune system with excellent examples of blowouts, as well as over a mile of Lake Michigan shoreline. The wooded areas include large, mature beech, maple, hemlock, oak, and black cherry trees. Wildflowers provide color in the spring. Trails are open for cross-country skiing in the winter, though not lit or groomed.
