Presque Isle River Scenic Site

Recognition: Legally Dedicated Natural Area,
National Natural Landmark
Presque Isle River Scenic Site location map
Size: 1465 acres
Location: In the very western part of the Upper Peninsula, from the mouth of the Presque Isle River to several miles upstream
Management: Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
Activities: Hiking, back-packing, photography, non-motorized fishing, rustic camping (adjacent), wildlife viewing
Importance:
The Presque Isle River within this area traverses a series of low falls and cascades, before dividing into two swifter and narrower channels that cut deeply into the underlying bedrock. The surrounding forest is dominated by old growth sugar maple, hemlock, and white pine.
