What Can You Do if Logging or Other Land Management Activity Does Not Appear to be Consistent With SFI Guidelines?

To obtain information in regard to the management of Michigan State Forest Land please feel free to contact the local DNR field office nearest the property of interest. Contact information for local DNR field offices can be found at: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-30301-34287--,00.html.

In addition, the SFI Program provides a mechanism for a person to report management activity conducted on SFI certified land or by a SFI Certified company that is believed to be "inconsistent" with the requirements of the SFI Standard. The Michigan SFI Implementation Committee maintains an "Inconsistent Practices Hotline" at 1-800-474-1718 to report such practices.

When you call, you will be asked for some basic information about the activity taking place, and the type of land ownership involved (state, private, corporate, or federal ownership). The SFI program will investigate your complaint if it involves SFI Certified land or a SFI certified company.

Additional information about the Michigan Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program and the SFI Standard can be found at: http://www.michiganforest.com/index.php?pid=81.
