Who can be a member?

The Council is composed of both voting and non-voting members. There are 15 voting members who are appointed to three year staggered terms, three (3) ex-officio, non-voting members and other non-voting members. Council membership is structured as follows:

1 - board member from Arboriculture Society of Michigan (ASM)
1 - registered landscape architect
1 - Michigan State University Extension - Field office
1 - university
1 - community college
1 - educator (k-12)
1 - utility (arborist, supervisor, or management)
1 - commercial arborist
1 - conservation district / nature center / arboretum etc.
1 - municipal forestry program representative
(community < 30,000)
1 - municipal forestry program representative
(community > 30,000)
2 - nonprofit organizations
1 - urban planner
1 - at large (interested individual, volunteer, developer, media etc.)
1 - regional USFS representative (ex-officio, non-voting)
1 - DNRE Urban Forestry Coordinator (ex-officio, non-voting)
1 - state representative to USFS Midwest Tech. Center (ex officio, non-voting)
2 - DNRE urban and community forestry staff (non-voting)

All meetings are open to the public and any interested individual is welcome to attend. Through the Council, you can express your concerns and opinions on urban and community forestry issues in Michigan.

What Does the Council Provide?

The Council helps communities improve the management of their trees and green spaces, to protect and enhance them for future generations. The Council helps communities identify opportunities for financial, technical and educational assistance through the state's urban forestry program. MUCFC also supports the Michigan State University Extension, Area of Expertise (AoE) network, which provides technical assistance to landowners and communities.
