Explore, discover and experience
Michigan's past
at the
Michigan Historical Museum
Recognizing that each student learns differently, we believe that the museum is the ideal environment for exploring Michigan history. We encourage students to make connections, to internalize the historical experience and to learn more than just facts. This leads to substantive conversations in which students develop guiding questions, test their hypotheses and draw conclusions through critical thinking and problem solving.
Hands-on interactive educational activities inspire children to explore and experience Michigan history and draw conclusions that produce new meaning and understanding for them. The activities funnel children's curiosity and energy, enhance their literacy and improve their performance in school.
All Michigan Historical Museum programs can be used to support Social Studies GLCEs related to chronological thinking, questions historians ask, primary and secondary sources and making historical comparisons. ELA GLCEs that concern listening and viewing, asking questions of presenters and analyzing oral and visual presentations are also applicable.
