Celebrate our Core Democratic Values with the Yak! The Yak explains important words like core, liberty, diversity and patriotism. He shows how 8th graders studied backpack safety and made lawmakers aware of the issue. He explores the documents that make our democracy, yaks about citizenship with Governor Jennifer Granholm and shares illustrations of these important values drawn by 6th graders in Wyandotte.

Yak's Corner is a section for young readers appearing every Thursday in the Detroit Free Press, as well as a daily column for young readers on weekdays.
