Accessible Hunting Blind Offered at Rifle River Recreation Area

accessible hunting blind at Rifle River Recreation AreaA fully accessible hunting blind is now available for reservations at the Rifle River Recreation Area. The blind is just one component of additional accessibility upgrades at Rifle River and six other state park and recreation areas across Michigan.

The Huntmaster Classic hunting blind will be available for use at three different hunting locations which have been strategically selected along an active wildlife corridor. The blind is affixed to a trailer and will be able to be placed by park staff upon reservation and request. The cabin is insulated and offers six feet of clear space for maneuverability. A solar powered control system allows the blind to be raised from ground level to twenty feet in height.

The hunting locations are dispersed along a short, primarily flat quarter of a mile trail constructed with compacted aggregate and adjacent to accessible parking. In non-hunting seasons the blind will be available for wildlife observation and photographic opportunities.

This adaptive equipment was purchased with Access to Recreation Initiative funding, made available through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Additional "Access to Recreation" improvements at Rifle River included trail upgrades at the Pine Tail Pond area.

The blind can be reserved for hunting, photography, or wildlife observation by persons with disabilities by contacting the recreation area at 989-473-2258. If there are no reservations then it can be used by the general public on a first come first serve basis.
