Eligibility and Drawing Details

Eligibility

  • Minimum age: 12

  • Residents and nonresidents may apply. However, the elk license may not be purchased by any nonresidents who are selected in the drawing (under current Michigan statute).

  • Apprentice hunters are not eligible to apply.

  • Successful applicants may apply without restriction for future Pure Michigan Hunt drawings (no ineligibility period).

  • Applying for or purchasing Pure Michigan Hunt licenses does not affect hunter eligibility to apply for or purchase regular hunting licenses in the same license year.

  • Individuals who are not eligible to apply for the regular elk drawing because of previous drawing success are fully eligible to apply for the Pure Michigan Hunt drawing and may obtain an elk license if selected.

  • Individuals under a court-ordered license revocation are not eligible to apply.

Other Drawing Details

  • Applicants must apply individually (no party applications).

  • The drawing will not utilize a point system. Success in the drawing does not affect any bear preference points or elk chances the individual may have accumulated for the regular bear and elk drawings.

  • Drawing success is not transferable to another individual.
