Position: Boat Captain, S/V Steelhead

Interests/Responsibilities: As captain of the R.V. Steelhead, I drive the boat, make sure that we are in the right place at the right time to catch fish, help with general vessel and equipment maintenance, and assist biologists in developing hypotheses and gathering data for their research throughout the open-water season on Lake Michigan.

In the spring we perform bottom net surveys to gather data on how yellow perch, lake trout, salmon, and whitefish population numbers and body sizes have changed through time. In the summer we continue to gather data on salmon populations and we also collect data on how abundant prey fish are throughout the lake. In the fall we go back to collecting data on yellow perch populations in Lake Michigan.
