In addition to purchasing a snowmobile trail permit, a person that operates a snowmobile in Michigan must be registered with the Secretary of State. The registration is valid for a three-year period with the registration cycle beginning on October 1 and expiring on September 30 of the third year.
A registration decal will be provided when you register. Michigan state law requires that they must be affixed to each side of the forward half of the cowl above the footwell.
Display of Registration Decal
Any time a registered snowmobile is sold to another person, the registration must also be transferred.
A snowmobile owned by a non-resident must display a valid registration from another state or province or be registered in Michigan before it can be operated in Michigan.
