Modern Lodge Available at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Exterior of the Kaug Wudjoo Lodge, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park Set along the shores of Lake Superior, the Kaug Wudjoo Lodge was constructed soon after the park was established in the 1945 and served originally as the park manager's residence.

Steeped in park history, the lodge is now available for weekly rentals, providing a unique opportunity for visitors interested in exploring Michigan's largest state park. Set alongside towering hemlock trees, the lodge represents all that the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is about.

Inside, guests will discover locally made cedar log beds in each bedroom,Kaug Wadjoo Lodge Great Room hard maple flooring throughout, a large stone fireplace and a 16-foot picture window overlooking Lake Superior. The facility accommodates up to 12 individuals and offers 1-1/2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a laundry room. A handcrafted, eight-foot white pine dining table blends the rustic décor and reminders of the park's splendid past with modern conveniences not found anywhere else in Michigan's state park system.

Kaug Wadjoo Lodge Summer Superior ViewWith many miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails, a seemingly endless supply of waterfalls, perhaps the best example of primary forest in the Midwest and 24 miles of unspoiled Lake Superior shoreline, a stay at Kaug Wudjoo Lodge provides access to explore all the park has to offer.

The name, pronounced (kahg-WAD'-jiw) means "place of the crouching porcupine" in Ojibwa. Park officials are taking reservations at a weekly rate of $1,225, plus a $8 non-refundable reservation fee. Alternative options for length of stay may be available. Contact the park for more details.
