    Lake Hudson Recreation Area--Astronomy Night

    Date:  October 05, 2013
    Time:  06:30 PM - 09:00 PM
Location: Lake Hudson Recreation Area, 5505 Morey Highway, Clayton, MI, 49235

Join us for an evening of star-gazing, planet-identifying, and constellation-finding at Michigan's First Dark Sky Preserve. This informal gathering of astronomers will be setting up their telescopes and instructing on how to locate the various celestial objects in the night sky. They have a variety of telescopes, and it is fascinating to learn the differences among them. Make sure to bring any questions you may have about being an astronomy buff.

Meet at first shelter area just past the booth upon entering the park approximately a half hour before dark. Please be considerate and dim your headlights upon approaching the viewing area. Children must be accompanied by adults the entire time as there will be very expensive equipment being used. As this is a casual meeting, there may be 20 astronomers present or none. It is weather-dependent and there is no communication relative to cancellation.

Please Note: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources makes every effort to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information on the web calendar. However, dates occasionally change and events may be canceled for any reason. Please call the unit hosting the event to confirm dates and times prior to your arrival.

A Recreation Passport is required for entry into all Michigan State Parks and Recreation Areas. Check "YES" when you renew your license plate. Learn more at www.michigan.gov/recreationpassport.
