Learn to fish with the DNR

Introductory fishing

The Hook, Line, and Sinker program provides introductory fishing classes weekly at over 30 state parks and fish hatcheries. Don't have equipment? No problem, we can provide a rod and reel for you to use.

With step-by-step direction, you'll learn fishing basics like knot-tying, setting up your pole, casting, selecting and using bait, and removing fish from the hook. After the 20- to 30-minute lesson, you'll be ready to hit the water and exercise your new skills.

Outdoor Skills Academy

The Outdoor Skills Academy offers more in-depth classes and clinics and are offered at several locations around the state. We offer expert instruction, gear and hands-on learning for a range of outdoor activities, from hunting and fishing to hiking, birding and much more.
