Gas Saving Camper Storage Program
This program began in 2008 as a way for campers to reduce their fuel costs by temporarily storing camping trailers or recreational vehicles within specified areas at designated state parks and recreation areas between visits.
The following storage rules apply:
- Camper must show proof (camp permit receipt or reservation confirmation letter) of campground use within the seven days prior to the beginning of the storage period.
- Maximum allowable storage period is 15 days.
- Camp units left more than 15 days will be assessed a $4.00/day storage fee. Camp unit owner may also be denied the opportunity to store the unit in the future. Camp units left beyond 30 days may be deemed "abandoned property" and submitted to state auction for disposal. Camper must contact the park if circumstances arise that will result in the unit being left more than 15 days.
- The camping unit must be locked and the hitch disabled through use of a lock or other mechanism.
- Camper assumes liability for any damages to state property or other stored units in the area caused during the process of dropping off or picking up the unit.
- The State of Michigan assumes no liability for any loss, injury, or damage as a result of the placement or storage of the unit.
- Camper will be required to sign the Camper/Equipment Storage Regulations Form (available at the campground) acknowledging the waiver of liability and rules to participate in the program.
