Natural Resources Commission Youth Conservation Council
For in the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught.
Interested in nature? Want to make a difference, meet new friends, gain leadership experience and have fun outdoors? Join the Youth Conservation Council!
Why You Should Join
The Natural Resources Commission Youth Conservation Council is your opportunity to be part of the conversation about conservation. It's a chance to:
- Make a difference - explore the reasons kids aren't getting outside and how the DNR can change this trend
- Make friends - meet other young people from around the state with an interest in the outdoors
- Gain leadership experience - work as a team to recommend and implement ideas and programs that will help encourage more participation in the outdoors by Michigan’s youth.
- Have fun outdoors
Who Should Join
We are looking for young people, ages 14 to 18, with a variety of backgrounds and outdoor interests who care about Michigan’s great outdoors. Whether you’re an avid hunter, love to kayak, enjoy hiking on Michigan’s trails or any one of the many other reasons to be outside, we want your input on getting kids outside.
What You'll Do
As a council member, you’ll meet with peers and natural resource mentors, brainstorm ideas, give advice, research and communicate with team members. For those who like getting involved in social media, you can support our Facebook page and contribute to our blog and Vine sites. Since we are all about getting kids outdoors, you will have the opportunity to learn new outdoor skills under the guidance of Department of Natural Resources staff.
