The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is promoting the seven premier Managed Waterfowl Hunt Areas (MWHA) the state has to offer. These areas offer first-class waterfowl hunting opportunities and produce various recreational activities that many outdoor enthusiasts enjoy. The benefits that they provide for the ecosystem are irreplaceable.

With the number of waterfowl hunters declining, the DNR has set out to revive the public's interest in exploring Michigan's Wetland Wonders. This spring and summer, Wetland Wonders Challenge II, a new contest for outdoor enthusiasts, will take place throughout the southern Lower Peninsula of Michigan at the seven Managed Waterfowl Areas. Sign up for the challenge by attending one of the many planned Wetland Wonders Challenge II events, which will include a diverse array of outdoor and wildlife activities including birding walks and workshops, fishing contests, nature hikes, paddling workshops, art encounters, photo scavenger hunts and more. Those who sign up will be will be entered into a drawing for seven ultimate Michigan exploration packages.

As interest in the MWHAs is enhanced, the public's engagement in waterfowl and wetland organizations will increase. Revenue for local companies that outfit waterfowl and wetland users will benefit greatly from the improved awareness of the MWHAs. With your efforts we hope to bring a renewed emphasis to Exploring Michigan's Wetland Wonders.

Fifth Annual Lake Effect Chapter of MDHA Youth Waterfowl Day

With 87 youth and 85 adults in attendance, this year's Youth Waterfowl Day was a succcess! Having moved to the Muskegon State Game Area this year we hope to see the event continue to grow and provide an excellent opportunity for youth to get involved, free of charge. Included in the events were the Safari Club's Sensory Safari Trailer, Local Michigan DNR staff, Conservation Officer's, local trappers and waterfowl hunters, the new Michigan Waterfowl Legacy booth, and much much more. All in attendance were able to go home with full bellies, big smiles on their faces, and even a free duck call.
