Wildfire Near Grayling
The Howes Lake Fire is 100 percent contained as of the morning of June 8. The acreage burned is approximately 817 acres. The evacuation of residents along Manistee River Road has been lifted, and residents who own homes in the evacuation zone can now return to their homes. Non-residents will not be allowed on Manistee River Road at this time. Howes Lake Road remains closed to all traffic except fire and emergency personnel. DNR fire crews will be working on holding the fire line today and mopping up the fire. Weather forecasts for the Grayling region call for hot, dry conditions with gusty winds. DNR fire crews will be on alert for any jumps across the fire line due to the weather. Residents across Michigan are asked to be extremely careful with any open fire due to hot, dry weather conditions.
