About Grants

The Department of Natural Resources offers several programs that provide grants to local units of government, non-profit agencies, and individuals for a variety of natural resource and outdoor recreation projects. These programs focus on outdoor recreation, wildlife, fisheries, boating, forestry, trails, and law enforcement.  Some of the programs are administered by the respective division that offers the grant, including Wildlife, Fisheries, Parks and Recreation, Forest, Mineral and Fire Management, and Law Enforcement.  Staff within these divisions are responsible for administering each grant program including application evaluation, grant project oversight, long-term grant compliance monitoring, and management of appropriated funds.

The Grants Management office is responsible for overseeing the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF), the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, ORV and snowmobile trail programs, snowmobile and ORV enforcement grants, as well the long-term obligations of several bond-funded programs like the Clean Michigan Initiative (CMI) Local Recreation Bond program and the 1988 Recreation Bond program.  Grants Management also provides staff support to the MNRTF Board of Trustees.

Please click on Grant Programs for more information on the various grant programs that are available through the DNR.
