Yarn Bombing the Museum

Graphic shows balls of yarn

Q. What is yarn bombing?

A. Yarn bombing is a new form of street art. Artists knit or crochet shapes to cover objects in public spaces—poles, bus seats, mailboxes, statues and more.

Q. Why yarn bomb the museum?

A. History is about the lives of people who came before us. Their stories are full of energy, love, loss, passion, struggle, defeat and triumph. At the Michigan Historical Museum, we collect, preserve and share these stories using the artifacts left behind.

Q. How Can I get involved?

A. Come to one of our monthly Stitch Labs. Meet other yarn enthusiasts, learn new skills and create pieces for the yarn bomb that will be displayed during Be a Tourist in Your Own Town on June 1. Any projects made at the Stitch Labs with yarn from the museum must be used for the museum's event.
