All first-time hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1960 are required to take and pass a hunter safety course. You will not be able to purchase a base license (other than an apprentice license) unless you can prove successful completion of a hunter safety course.
Even though trapper education is not required in Michigan, we strongly encourage new trappers to take advantage of this educational opportunities. The certificate is required in some states.
Volunteer Recreational Safety Instructors
BECOME A VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR
The DNR strives to recruit the most qualified instructors available and provide them with the best materials and training necessary to conduct hunter education courses throughout the state. We need volunteer instructors because there are not enough conservation officers to conduct training in every community across the state.
