This class, for fly-fishing beginners, starts at 10 a.m. at the Lower Falls Concession Building. Instructors Jim and Lynda Rutledge, along with members of the Two-Hearted Chapter of Trout Unlimited, will teach the basics of fly fishing, including necessary equipment and fly selections to target eastern Upper Peninsula species. The afternoon will focus on aquatic insects and hands-on practice with casting techniques using supplied rods.

Cost is $35. Fishing equipment (rods, line, flies) and lunch will be provided. The river often is too high to wade safely, but should conditions permit, participants must bring their own waders or hip boots to fish the river. You also may bring your own fishing equipment.
