The Department of Environmental Quality has many maps that can be found throughout programmatic webpages. This page consolidates many of the maps for ease of navigation related to our webpages. Maps can be obtained electronically, or you can order a hard copy. In addition, some programs collect data associated with geographical information. Much of this data has been consolidated and made available through the State of Michigan Center for Geographic Information. Where programs maintain geographical datasets that are subject to continual update, links have been provided below.

• Michigan Geological Survey Maps & Publications
Geology is fundamental to wise use of mineral and energy resources, protecting groundwater, protecting against natural disasters such as earthquakes, and making responsible land use decisions.

• Topographic Maps of Michigan
One of the most widely used of all maps is the topographic map. The feature that most distinguishes topographic maps from other types of maps is the use of contour lines to portray the shape and elevation of the land. Topographic maps render the three-dimensional ups and downs of the terrain on a two-dimensional surface.
