MIOSHA Establishes an Alliance with Three Related Organizations

September 13, 2004 - The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has established an alliance with three related organizations under one banner. The three organizations include the Great Lakes Fabricators and Erectors Association (GLFEA), Ironworkers Local Union#25 (IW25) and Operating Engineers Local Union #324 (OE324).

One of the key elements of the alliance is the development of a working relationship that creates mutual trust and respect for each organization's respective role in the construction process.

MIOSHA, GLFEA, IW25 and OE324 Agree to promote safe and healthy working conditions for structural steel erection, fabrication and rigging employers and employees in the State of Michigan by providing them with information and guidance that will help them protect employee health and safety. Particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to the most prevalent industry hazards such as fall hazards, struck by hazards, caught in/between hazards and electrical hazards.

The alliance was signed by Doug Kalinowski, MIOSHA Director; Patrick "Shorty" Gleason, Business Manager Local #25; John Hamilton, Business Manager Local #324; D James Walker, Executive Director GLFEA.
