KEEP YOUR MACHINE GUARDS/ DEVICES ON DUTY

Guards are put on Machines
for one purpose… to Protect.

• Machines without guards or suitable safety devices in place must not be operated.

• Guards isolate hazards from workers. Safety devices also save fingers, limbs and lives. They protect from distractions, impatience and accidents caused by inattention.
• Report immediately any defective or missing guard or safety device.

• A guard or device not secured, or functioning improperly can create an additional hazard. Inspect guards or devices regularly and keep them in good
repair.

• Only authorized personnel should remove or adjust guards or safety devices.

• Manufacturer installed guards or devices may not be enough. Review the working purpose of your machine. If need be, install additional guards or devices at point of operation or other hazardous areas.

• Follow lockout procedures when removing guards or devices for repair or set up.

• Don’t bypass guards or devices. Trying to speed production and save time only increases the chance for serious injury. Guards or devices are a vital part of any safe environment.

• Be sure the main power switch for the machine is locked and tagged before removing guards or devices.
