In the early 1920s, Harry M. Jewett, a
Detroit automobile manufacturer, purchased
land near Rose City to fulfill his dream of
creating a haven for the "rod and gun." He
named this private hunting and fishing
retreat Grousehaven, and the main lodge was
located on a narrow section of land between
Lodge Lake and Grebe Lake.

Summer is rapidly fading but do not put the
camping equipment away just yet. There are
many fall events planned. Take a look at our
calendar. You will find a Geology Arts Fair,
a historic encampment; radio-controlled
flying planes, triathlons and walks (some for
charity), camper cook-offs, a lighthouse
festival and a tour to find sandhill cranes
and much more including the Fall Harvest
Festivals.

The first Racing for Wildlife conservation
project is the restoration of Michigan's Mill
Lake Youth Camp. Located about 30 miles north
of Michigan International Speedway in the
20,000-acre Waterloo Recreation Area, the
historic camp was built by the Works Progress
Administration in the 1930s.
