MDOT_APPS utilities for non-Mdot users (now with networking capability)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Download mdot_apps.exe from http://www.mdot.state.mi.us/bbs/. This is a self
   extracting zip file that will create the proper directories and place the
   required files. 

To Run The Programs as stand alone (on each user's machine)
---------------------------------------------------------------

   2. Double click the downloaded file and accept the default location.

   3. MDOT_APPS contains the following utilities:

	a. pQuantC  - 	a utility for placing standard pay items.
	b. rdnotesC - 	a utility for placing standard road notes and standard
                        plan requirements for road note sheets.
	c. brnotesC -	a utility to place standard bridge notes.

   4. To run the utilities you must be in Microstation V8 (2004).
	a. Keyin, mdl load "c:\program files\MDOT_APPS\<Utility name>"
	   (ex: mdl load "c:\program files\MDOT_APPS\pQuantC" with the quotes)
        b. Add the path, C:\Program Files\MDOT_APPS\, to the MS_MDL variable in
           your workspace. Then keyin mdl load <Utility name>.
           (ex: mdl load pQuantC)

To Run The Programs from a Network Location (on a server)
---------------------------------------------------------

   2. Double click the downloaded file and unzip to any location.

   3. From the unzipped location move the pQuantC.ma, rdnotesC.ma and the
      brnotesC.ma to a location on your server pointed to by the MS_MDL config
      variable in your workspace.

   4. In the location you unzipped to there will be a data directory with
      subdirectories of 2003, brnotesC and the rdnotesC. Move the three
      subdirectories and all their contents to a location on your server.
      Add the MDOT_APPS_DATA config variable to your workspace pointing to
      the base directory where you moved the three directories.

    If you moved the three directories to K:\mdot\data then the MDOT_APPS_DATA
    would equal K:\mdot\data\ including the last backslash.

   5. To run the utilities you must be in Microstation V8 (2004).
      Keyin mdl l pquantC or mdl l rdnotesC or mdl l brnotesC to run
      the desired program.

User responsibility
--------------------

1. Check the bbs site often for updated data files for the MDOT_APPS utilities.
   	Data files for pQuantC will be named 2003.exe.
	Data files for rdnotesC will be named rdnotesC.exe
     	Data files for brnotesC will be named brnotesC.exe

   The data files will be updated as changes are made to the MDOT Standards.

2. Download the data file updates as needed. Double click the downloaded file(s)
   and accept the defaults. The data files will be updated. Networked installations
   will need the data file copied to the proper locations.

3. Please note that the MDOT_APPS utilities are not installed on your machine
   they are files copied to the C:\Program Files\MDOT_APPS directory. To remove
   the MDOT_APPS utilities simply delete the C:\Program Files\MDOT_APPS directory
   and its contents.


       DISCLAIMER - MDOT_APPS utilities are provided as is, with no support
       ----------   offered by MDOT or MDIT. The applications function properly
                    at MDOT and are expected to function on non-MDOT workstations
                    running MicroStation V8 (2004).

                    The rdnotesC and brnotesC utilities have functions
                    that require mdot cell libraries to be included in the cell
                    search variables of your workspace. Without the cell libraries
                    both utilities function as text placement tools only.

                    Users of this information are solely responsible for checking
                    the bbs site for updates.
