Driver Responsibility Installment Agreement Information
The Michigan Department of Treasury may enter into an Installment Agreement with a driver who has been assessed Driver Responsibility Fees. Installment Agreements are limited to 24 months in duration to avoid suspension of your license.
Failure to comply with the terms of the Installment Agreement will result in the suspension of the driver's license and other collection actions.
Installment Agreements are subject to Treasury review and approval. Upon approval you will receive a confirmation letter indicating your monthly payment amount, the due date as well as pre-identified payment coupons to use for directing payments to the Office of Collections. Please make payments as proposed during the time that your Installment Agreement request is under review.
If your Installment Agreement is denied, you will receive instructions from the Office of Collections on how to proceed.
Driver Responsibility fee payments cannot be accepted by the courts or at Secretary of State branch offices.
Upon completion of the Installment Agreement, the Michigan Department of Treasury will notify the Secretary of State that the Driver Responsibility Fee(s) covered under the Installment Agreement were paid in full.
Failure to comply with the terms of the Installment Agreement will result in the suspension of the driver's license. Any additional assessment notices not included in the agreement or missed payments will be considered default of the agreement and Treasury may take immediate enforcement action such as placing a levy on wages or bank accounts. If your driver's license is suspended, you will be required to pay a $125 driver license reinstatement fee in addition to your driver responsibility fees.
