Diagnosis

Diagnostic Testing in Wildlife

The heads and/or lungs of deer submitted for necropsy are examined by either Rose Lake Lab personnel or by the Michigan State University's Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health Lab (DCPAH). The parotic, mandibular, medial and lateral retropharyngeal, bronchial and mediastinal lymph nodes will be collected if visual lesions are present. Histopathology using routine hematoxylin and eosin and acid-fast staining is done at DCPAH. Chilled portions of lymph nodes are shipped to the Michigan Department of Community Health Lab for mycobacterial isolation and identification.
