FOR ACCREDITATION PURPOSES:
NOTE: Presently the USDA CWD Accreditation
program is not finalized and will be posted as soon as it is open and
available either for comment from all stakeholders and also in its final rule
form. However, there are certain rules
that will apply to becoming accredited and these should be utilized now to
assure a more smooth and rapid attainment of accredited status when the program
is instituted.
- Remember that 100%
of all animals over 16 months
of age found dead or that die (or euthanized) from sickness MUST be
tested.
-
Accreditation Programs are not for everybody but are
directed to herds that are selling breeding stock or moving live animals
in-and-out of their facilities for reasons other then breeding sales, for
example exhibition.
-
Samples must be collected and submission forms
signed by accredited private or regulatory (USDA/MDA)
veterinarians. Non-accredited
veterinarians and producers are not allowed to collect and sign submission forms
for accreditation purposes.
-
At this time Certificates of Acknowledgement are being granted
to producers that are participating in the mandatory Privately Owned Cervidae
CWD Surveillance Program. This
certificate will show verification that the producer is actively participating
in the Michigan CWD surveillance program.
- Eventually, this certificate will
be replaced with the customary "Certificate of CWD Accreditation" when
available.
